Belleville police have ended an investigation into an alleged sexual assault in downtown Belleville after determining that the assault didn’t happen.
On May 15, a 15-year-old girl reported to police she had been sexually assaulted in the downtown area by an older man.
After a large investigation involving the Uniform Patrol, Criminal Investigations Division, School Response Officer, and the Community Resource Unit, Belleville Police determined that the alleged assault did not take place. Belleville police say significant resources were deployed for the investigation.
Instead of charges for public mischief, the girl is being connected with various social supports.
Belleville police are thanking the public for their assistance in the investigation.
