Defence attorneys for the suspect charged in the killing of Giovanni “Michael” Robinson in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin are seeking to throw out statements made to the police.
Robinson, a former member of the Wellington Dukes, was killed in a drive-by shooting on September 24, 2025 while on a golf trip.
Luis E. Cruz Burgos was charged with first-degree reckless homicide in the incident.
In a status conference on September 11, defence attorneys for Burgos put forward a motion alleging that Sheboygan Falls police questioned the suspect for more than an hour before reading his Miranda rights, then continued after he said he wanted to remain silent.
The defence also alleged that there were statements that were mistranslated, as Burgos spoke Spanish to officers.
A motion hearing has been scheduled for December 7, 2026.
Earlier in the case, the defence had filed a separate motion to have the matter tried in a different county or to have jurors brought in from another county.
That motion hearing has been set for January 5, 2027.
It was noted that a trial could potentially be scheduled after that January hearing, with prosecutors estimating that the trial could last around 5 days.
