The Children’s Foundation has announced that Bruce MacKay has been named its 2027 Guardian Angel.
Bruce, his family and Mackay Insurance were recognized for supporting children’s sports, recreation and community organizations throughout the Quinte region.
His support can be seen across the community, from hockey and the Belleville Senators to the YMCA, Grace Inn Shelter, Christmas Sharing, Hospice, the Humane Society and The Children’s Foundation.
Speaking with Quinte News, Mackay says he feels overwhelmed and humbled to be named the 2027 Guardian Angel.
“When I was a kid, I had a hard time fitting in, and there’s lots of kids who are in boatsm not because of anything they’ve done, just because of the situation they’ve been born into, the Children’s Foundation makes life more normal for kids like that, so that’s near and dear to my heart,” MacKay tells Quinte News.
“Things like sports, things like going to the Sens and Bulls games, things like going to clubs, some kids can’t afford to do that, and the Children’s Foundation steps in and fills in the gap.”
The Guardian Angel Gala will be sponsored by Bay of Quinte Mutual Insurance, and will have a Great Gatsby style theme.
It is scheduled for March 6, 2027 with more details to come.

“Bruce is exactly what we mean when we talk about a Guardian Angel. He gives back because he genuinely cares about this community and the people in it. His generosity has reached so many organizations, families and children over the years, often quietly and without looking for recognition. We are incredibly proud to honour Bruce as our 2027 Guardian Angel,” said Sarah Rozema-Seaton, Chair of The Children’s Foundation Board of Directors.
Bruce was named Businessperson of the Year at the Quinte Business Achievement Awards in 2017 and received the Belleville Chamber of Commerce Citizenship Award in 2021.
Ingrid Moore, Executive Director of The Children’s Foundation, says some of Bruce’s most meaningful community work is rooted in family. “I think what says so much about Bruce is how personal his giving is. Each year, he walks in memory of his mom to raise funds for local charities, and he organizes the Dave Mackay Memorial Golf Tournament in honour of his dad. He finds meaningful ways to give back, time and time again, and our community is better because of it.”
The Children’s Foundation provides and funds programs aimed at ensuring all children and youth in Hastings, Northumberland, and Prince Edward Counties have social and physical opportunities to explore, learn, play, and thrive.
