The case of two Belleville Police officers, charged by Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit, will go to trial early next year.
Constable Matthew Sweet and Sergeant Kyle King were each charged with assault causing bodily harm this past February, following an SIU investigation into the execution of a search warrant on Coleman Street in September of 2020, when a 28-year-old man was seriously injured.
While no other details are being released, as the case is before the courts, Quinte News has learned that a trial is expected to begin on February 14, 2022.
Both Belleville Police Chief Mike Callaghan and the Belleville Police Association have asked the public to withhold their judgment on the officers, as none of the allegations have been proven in court.
