BELOW IS A STATEMENT FROM THE BELLEVILLE POLICE ASSOCIATION FOLLOWING SPECIAL INVESTIGATIONS UNIT CHARGES AGAINST CONSTABLE MATTHEW SWEET AND SERGEANT KYLE KING.
Every Canadian is afforded the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty, even police officers. We ask the public not to pass judgement until the legal process can be played out and the facts presented in this case. The members of the Belleville Police Association are committed to upholding the high standards set out in the province and will continue to do so during this difficult time.
We would like to thank the public for their outgoing and continuing support towards the membership during this time.
The Association will not comment any further into this matter as it is now before the courts.
