A number of Belleville drug stores are running out of the COVID-19 vaccine as supplies are being sent to Ontario’s hot spots.
The province had originally indicated 25-percent of the local supply would be taken back for the Toronto areas that have large numbers of COVID-19 patients.
But Quinte News has learned that the number jumped to 50-percent of the local supply.
That cutback means some drug stores are not able to meet appointment requirements and do not know when vaccine supplies will be resumed.
Shoppers Drug Mart on Sidney Street, Kelly’s Drug store on Bridge Street are out of vaccine, Metro Pharmacy on North Front will be out by this weekend, while Rexall on Dundas Street says its “supply is OK.”
The drug stores continue to take appointments but do not know when the vaccine supply will resume.
