Belleville has approved the first of the city’s casino funding to go to social infrasturcture groups.
On Monday night, city council had before it the grant committee’s recommendations for the grants, some of them as much as $10,000.
Among the 15 were the Situation Table to allow it to hire a coordinator, Grace Inn Homeless Shelter, Gleaners Food Bank, Night Light Belleville and Youth Bowl Canada.
The committee had denied two others, one from Community Organized Support and Prevention and one from the Pentecostal Church, but council approved both following explanations about the projects.

Another round of applications will be received. with a deadline of July 30, for the remaining $18,000 of this particular casino money.
