Belleville City Council approved a grant request for funding to help pay for an affordable housing project in the city’s east end, but with a catch.
Council approved a request for $197,000 under the city’s Community Improvement Plan for the building of a 38-unit apartment building at 120 Burnham Street.
According to a report, the building would include 12 affordable units and eight accessible units.
Councillor Paul Carr put forward the amendment to allow for the funding, providing that construction begins within six months of a building permit being issued.
Council approved the motion, including Councillor Carr’s amendment.
