One person is facing multiple charges after a warrant was served by Animal Welfare Services, with assistance from the Ontario Provincial Police.
Members of the Prince Edward County OPP were requested to assist Animal Welfare Services with the execution of a warrant at a residence in Picton just before 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
Animal Welfare Services told police there had been ongoing concerns regarding the treatment of a dog at the home, including reports of physical abuse and failure to comply with previous orders.
Warrants issued under the Provincial Animal Welfare Services Act may authorize entry to a property to locate and remove animals believed to be in distress.
OPP say its officers attended the residence alongside Animal Welfare Services.
It’s alleged that during the interaction, the individual assaulted a police officer and resisted arrest.
Following a brief struggle, officers took the person into custody.
Police and Animal Welfare Services then entered the residence, where the dog was located.
Thirty-two-year-old Jordan Fenemore of Picton, has been charged with:
- Assault a Peace Officer (two counts)
- Resist Peace Officer
- Obstruct Peace Officer
- Causing unnecessary pain, suffering or injury to an animal
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton.
