The Belleville Police Services Board’s leadership will continue to operate “as is” for another year.
At Thursday’s brief meeting, Jack Miller was appointed as chair for another year, with Belleville Councillor Kelly McCaw to serve again as vice chair.
The board also approved a new towing contract for the police service with Quinte Towing and agreed to pay its membership fee to the Ontario Association of Police Service Boards, of just over $5,000.
Board members also got a look at various fourth quarter reports on crime, emergency response calls, traffic complaints and more, with no major concerns brought up by any of the members.
Of note, nearly all crime categories were down in the fourth quarter compared to 2019, with only drug offences and criminal harassment calls reported at the same amount as they were in the last three months of last year.
In an email following the meeting, Deputy Chief Chris Barry tells Quinte News “this can probably be attributed to the lockdowns imposed by the province due to COVID-19”.
Barry noted that the annual crime stats will be presented to the board at its next meeting in March, which should provide a “more meaningful comparison”.
