A stable of local banks is teaming up to support the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Buy-A-Bed Campaign.
The banks will hold special fundraising events at their branches through the month of September, culminating with TMH’s first Bankers Bed Race event on the 30th.
TMHF Executive Director Wendy Warner tells Quinte News, each bank will enter a team to decorate their beds and then race them head-to-head, behind Leon’s.
The banks are raising money for the campaign, which is trying to buy eight new beds this year, at a total cost of about $100,000.
Warner says getting local banks involved makes it easier for people in the community to pitch in.
Some of the bank fundraisers include book and bake sales, pie in the face contests, raffle draws and more.
Members of the public are invited to the race event, on Ryan Crescent behind Leon’s, on Sunday September 30th.
Bed decorating will begin at 8:30 a.m., with a parade of beds at 9:45 a.m. and the races starting at 10:00 a.m.
A BBQ lunch will follow.
Leon’s has already raised enough money to buy one bed, with another donor coming forward to purchase a second.
The hospital still needs six more beds and three stretchers as part of the annual TMHF campaign, which is looking to raise $2 million this year, to buy much needed hospital equipment.
