Centre Hastings OPP have taken several commercial vehicles off the road during a targeted enforcement blitz.
Officers partnered with Belleville Police Service, the Ministry of Transportation Enforcement Unit, and other organizations to run commercial motor vehicle inspections and enforcement activities in Centre Hastings and the City of Belleville on Friday. During the initiative, officers and inspectors focused on commercial vehicle safety, regulatory compliance, and driver-related violations. A total of 37 inspections were completed.
From those investigations, 10 vehicles were taken out of service, and 32 charges were laid for various offences. Those charges included annual inspection violations, hours of service violations, registration offences, daily inspection and vehicle maintenance violations, improper brake defects, and cargo securing violations.
Five licence plates were removed due to major safety defects.
OPP are reminding commercial vehicle operators to comply with provincial and federal safety standards. Mechanical defects, improper maintenance, and regulatory violations can significantly increase the risk of collisions and jeopardize the safety of all road users.
