Belleville City Council will decide on Monday (Sept. 28) whether or not to give the new YMCA Centre for Life a break on property taxes.
The YMCA is a registered charitable organization that has served the community for decades providing vital services, including affordable/subsidized childcare, youth leadership programs, fitness facilities and newcomer settlement services.
City staff is recommending 2027 property taxes be waived for that year.
Should council approve, the city would lose about $300,000 in tax revenue.
The YMCAs in Quinte West and Peterborough are not subject to local taxes.
City council meets at 4 o’clock at City Hall. The meeting will be livestreamed.
