Hastings County is preparing a new scholarship, designed to both help students complete programs for child care and encourage them to settle in the Quinte Region.
During Wednesday’s meeting of Hastings County Community and Human Services Committee, the committee reviewed a proposal to launch the scholarship program by sending a total of $137,000 to Fleming and St. Lawrence colleges for the scholarship. Those funds would be divided into $68,500 for each school. in order to provide 13 students at each school with a $5,000 shot in the arm.
The funds will be released to students in three parts, with recipients getting $1500 when completing a 3rd semester placement, $1500 for completing the fourth semester of the program, and and additional $2000 upon proof of employment with an eligible Hastings County child care employer following graduation.
The committee moved to approve the new program, and sent it on to council for final approval.
