Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid charges in unrelated incidents across the county.
Mischief
On July 27, 2026, at around 8:30 p.m., police responded to a disturbance at an address on Meade Street in the Municipality of Brighton.
Officers attended and took one individual into custody after damage was caused to a residence door.
Jennifer KOEBEL (31) of Brighton, has been charged with:
– Mischief under $5,000
The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in October.
Impaired Operation
On July 25, 2026, at approximately 11:15 a.m., OPP received a traffic complaint regarding a passenger vehicle that was unable to maintain its lane on County Road 30 in the Municipality of Brighton.
Officers located and stopped a vehicle matching the description provided. After speaking with the driver, police initiated an impaired driving investigation which resulted in the motorist being taken into custody and transported to a local detachment. The investigation also revealed additional offences.
Joel HANEY (39) of Campbellford has been charged with:
– Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
– Failure or refusal to comply with demand
– Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
– Owner operate a motor vehicle without insurance
– Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit
– Failure to comply with release order – other to attend court
The accused was held to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.
On July 25, 2026, at approximately 12:30 a.m., officers were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) check on Old Hastings Road at County Road 25 in the Municipality of Trent Hills.
As a result of a traffic stop at the checkpoint, officers initiated an impaired driving investigation and took one person into custody.
Steven GONZALEZ (27) of Trent Hills, has been charged with:
– Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in September.
RIDE initiatives are conducted throughout the year to help keep roadways safe. If you plan to consume alcohol or drugs, make arrangements for a designated driver, taxi, rideshare service, public transportation, or another safe means of getting home. Anyone who suspects a driver is impaired by alcohol or drugs should call 9-1-1 immediately to report it.
On July 28, 2026, shortly after 12:30 a.m., Emergency Medical Services (EMS), fire services and OPP responded to a single-vehicle collision near Wellington Street and Nelson Lane in the Municipality of Trent Hills.
After speaking with the uninjured driver, officers initiated an impaired driving investigation which resulted in the motorist being taken into custody.
Samantha DJETVAY (25) of Bewdley, has been charged with:
– Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in September.
For each person charged with impaired operation, a 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment were imposed.
