A lot people want the Milltown Bridge in Tyendinaga Townshp reopened to vehicles and it might happen, but not for a few years yet.
Tyendinaga Township Mayor Claire Kennelly tells Quinte News that the bridge over the Salmon River had to be closed in late 2024 because it was declared structurally unsafe. Steel plates are covering holes in the bridge’s deck.
Wednesday night township council was presented with a petition with over 70 names asking that it be reopened.
“Well we put it in the budget this year to tender it to have somebody remove it–get ahead of the game. Unfortunately we had to do
another bridge first. Our money has gone for this year and next year to replace that bridge first because it’s on a main thoroughfare.”
The bridge Kennelly is referring to is Taylor’s Bridge on the heavily travelled Shannonville Road.
The township’s Roads Manager will present an update on Milltown Bridge to council in a few weeks.
