A group wanting financial support to push for a high speed rail project to be routed along the Highway 401 corridor won’t be getting any money from Tyendinaga Township.
In a letter to council The Corridor Train Alliance says putting high speed rail beside the 401 makes the most sense of any route.
Tyendinaga Township Mayor Claire Kennelly tells Quinte News council ignored the group’s request because land at 401 interchanges will be attractive for commercial development in future years.
The township is on record as opposing both the southern and northern high speed rail routes proposed by Alto.
Kennelly says the only high speed rail route that might make any sense for Tyendinaga would be beside existing railroad tracks.
