Quinte West has waived some municipal fees for an upcoming fundraiser in support of the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation.
During Wednesday’s meeting of council, councillors discussed a request from the foundation regarding their upcoming fundraiser event at the Grind and Vine in downtown Trenton.
The event was set to take place outdoors, and would require an outdoor patio event permit. The cost of that permit would cover expenses to the municipality for installing barriers and closing roads.
While discussing the request, councillor Don Kuntze questioned if they permit should be approved at all.
“Why does it have to be that that we have to waive a fee? Can’t they be in a park somewhere that we don’t have to move a bunch of stuff around and put up cement barriers, and then take them right down again,” said Kuntze. “That sounds like an incredible waste of effort on our part, when this event could be held in another dozen places without having to go through all that work.”
After some brief debate, council ultimately voted to waive the fees for the permit.
