The City of Belleville has been approved by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation for funding from the second round of the Housing Accelerator Fund.
The news was confirmed by Councillor Paul Carr at the conclusion of the City of Belleville’s Planning Committee meeting on Monday.
The city had been denied in the first round of funding.
During a council meeting in September 2024, city council agreed to put in another submission for the Housing Accelerator Fund for Round 2 hoping for $16.8 million to help build 460 more residential units within three years.
As part of its submission, council agreed to commit to a four units as-of-right policy in order to qualify for the funding.
Carr said an announcement with more details is expected to come later this week.
Belleville was one of 23 Ontario communities approved for funding in the second round.
