Quinte West Fire and Emergency Services are kicking off Fire Prevention Week with an open house on October 5.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., residents of all ages are invited to Fire Station 1 (49 Dixon Drive, Trenton) to learn about smoke alarms and fire safety, tour the fire station and emergency service vehicles, and watch live fire equipment demonstrations.
The theme of this year’s Fire Prevention Week, which runs from Oct. 6-12, is “Smoke Alarms: Make them work for you!”
According to the National Fire Protection Association, having working smoke alarms in your home reduces the risk of dying in a home fire by 54%.
“Fire safety starts at home and a working smoke alarm is your first line of defense. This Fire Prevention Week, we’re reminding the Quinte West community to ensure that your smoke alarm is properly installed, working and maintained. Smoke alarms save lives, and together, we can ensure every home in Quinte West is fire-safe,” says Fire Chief John Whelan.
During Fire Prevention Week, Quinte West reminds residents to review their fire safety practices, create or update their home escape plans, and ensure that homes and workplaces have properly functioning smoke alarms.
