Belleville City Council approved declaring the Belleville Caribbean Festival a “Municipally Significant Event” in order to help the Caribbean Carnival Committee secure a permit to serve alcohol at the event.
The festival has been running for several years, with this year’s event planning to run for three days for the first time in its existence.
It would begin at West Zwick’s Park and have family activities and music on Friday, August 16, then head to Belleville’s downtown for a parade as well as vendors on Saturday, August 17, then finish up at Market Place for more family activities and music on Sunday, August 18.
On the Saturday portion of the festival, a plan is in place to have a beer garden in the parking lot across from Belleville City Hall, including a hospitality tent and fencing according to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario’s regulations.
City staff will also ensure that any other requirements are met as part of a rental agreement with the committee.
