Rescue from suicide attempt
It was an incident where training was put into life-saving action by a Belleville police officer February 28.
Constable Conner O’Hara was called out to a residence for a wellness check as a woman was concerned about her grandson’s safety.
O’Hara was told he might be in the garage but the garage door was locked. He forced the door finding himself face to face with the grandson hanging from a noose.
The Constable immediately cut him down and gave him a sternum rub while calling paramedics.
The grandson’s life was saved. The Police Services Board commended O’Hara at a meeting Thursday.
Distressed man saved
The Belleville Police Services Board has commended two officers who quite possibly saved the life of a man on a railway overpass in the city early this month.
Constables Khoby Langdon and Brenden Frazer spotted a man straddling a railing on the Sidney Street overpass and after speaking with him realized he wasn’t well.
When the man refused to move off the overpass the officers managed to grab him and arrest him under the Mental Health Act.
The man himself later wrote to the officers thanking them for saving his life, saying they deserved a medal.
Resident recognized as a hero
A resident was recognized for his quick thinking and bravery at a meeting of the Belleville Police Services Board Thursday.
On February 2 there was a serious collision at the intersection of Palmer Road north and Moira Street West. There were injuries and one of the vehicles caught fire.
One of those involved in the accident, Jonathan St. Jean, ran to the other vehicle and pulled a man away from the flames.
Police Chief Mike Callaghan said St. Jean was to be commended for saving a life, calling him a hero.
