When it comes to track and field the East Northumberland Blue Dragons have been the dominant high school in the area for years.
And it appears they’re ready to dominate the field again this season.
Fifty-seven ENSS track and field athletes competed at the Limestone Invitational in Kingston on Thursday.
Among the highlights was an ENSS sweep of the podium in the novice boys’ 1500 metre.
Jack Turner was first (4:39) and his teammates Sullivan Tait (4:42) and Dawson Dunham (4:46) were second and third. Seth Black took first place in novice boys’ javelin (39.90 m) and second in shot put (11.94 m). Victoria Fraser was second in junior girls’ discus (21.89 m) and third in shot put (9.10 m).
Other top three finishes by ENSS athletes included the following.
- Aidan Molenhuis – 2nd in senior high jump (1.85 m) and 4th in 100 m hurdles (16.78 s)
- Dominic Rittwage – 2nd in junior 100 m (12.22 s)
- Aidan Fairbank – 2nd in senior 100 m (11.74 s)
- Hannah Millington – 2nd in junior high jump (1.35 m)
- Jetayah Casselman – 3rd in senior 100 m (13.63 s) and 3rd in long jump (4.49 m)
- Cadence Tait – 3rd in open girls’ 2000 m steeplechase (8:17)
- Owen McDougall – 3rd in junior 1500 m (4:25)
- Ethan Miklos – 3rd in senior 1500 m (4:47)
- Vincent Vroegryk – 3rd in novice triple jump (10.18 m)
- Alivia King – 3rd in novice triple jump (8.90 m)
- Sean O’Reilly – 3rd in senior javelin (41.40 m)
- Angus McDougall – 3rd in senior discus (35.76 m)
Next up for the Blue Dragons will be the Hungerford Track and Field Classic in Brockville on Friday, May 10.
