The second annual Travis Gillespie Memorial Hockey Tournament is this weekend in Brighton.
Gillespie, a York Region Police Constable who grew up in Northumberland County , was killed in September 2022 when an alleged impaired driver struck his vehicle while he was on his way to work.
Last year, the inaugural tournament was held in Warkworth and raised more than $22,000 in support of minor hockey and martial arts, both of which Gillespie was passionate about.
Next year organizers plan to move the event to Colborne, all places where Travis used to play hockey throughout his childhood.
The tournament kicks off Saturday at the Brighton Arena.
