The Toronto Marlies slipped past the Belleville Senators 4-3 in overtime on Friday Night, tying their best of three American Hockey League playoff series.
Donovan Sebrango, and Garrett Pilon scored for the Senators.
The Marlies took an early lead with a single unanswered goal in the first minute of the first period. The Marlies scored again early in the second, before the Sens grabbed their first of the night. Both teams would grab another goal later in the period, with the Marlies keeping their slim lead into the third period.
With less than a minute left on the clock, the Senators found the back of the net and tied the game, taking the teams to overtime, where in under a minute of overtime play, the Marlies scored the game-winning goal.
Belleville Sens Head Coach Dave Bell said there were points where the team lost composure.
“Hockey’s an emotional game and there was a lot of emotion in that game,” said Coach Bell. “I thought at times, we let it get the best of us and put us in some bad situations and then at other times, it propelled us to do some pretty good things. We’ve got to find that balance with our emotion and make sure we keep it on the right side of the line.”
The Sens are back in action for Game 3 on Sunday at the CAA Arena.
