Colonel Leif Dahl has been permanently removed as commander of 8 Wing Trenton.
The decision was announced by Lieutenant-General E. J. Kenny, the Commander of the Royal Canadian Air Force, in a statement.
The removal was made effective Thursday.
Col. Dahl faces charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, careless storage of a firearm, transporting a firearm or restricted weapon, obstructing a peace officer, careless use of a firearm and hunting birds without a licence.
This after a firearms incident on August 25 in the Murray Canal in Quinte West.
A new court date for Dahl has been set for October 26.
Lt. General Kenny says Colonel Leighton James will be appointed 8 Wing Commander, replacing the Acting 8 Wing Commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Matt Lederle.
“I thank Lieutenant-Colonel Lederle for doing an exemplary job in leading 8 Wing during this brief but difficult period,” Kenny says in a statement.
