Prince Edward Flying Club (PEFC) is launching its 70th anniversary celebrations on Saturday, June 17 with a fly-in breakfast on Father’s Day weekend. Breakfast will be served at the Flying Club, 343 County Rd 22, Picton at Base31. Rain date is June 18.
The community and pilots are invited to enjoy a hot breakfast from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Cost is $15 for adults, free for children five years and under. In addition to listening to some toe-tapping music by Celtic performer Mark McGreevy, visitors will have opportunities to chat with pilots and see a variety of aircraft.
This summer’s other 70th anniversary celebrations – also held at the Flying Club’s Clubhouse, 343 County Rd 22, Picton include:
July 8: Open House with birthday cake, 1 to 4 p.m. This event is free, and the community is invited to drop by for cake, meet PEFC pilots, and see their airplanes.
September 23. Find your Wings Career Fair for Young Women. This free event will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. and is designed to introduce young women to career possibilities in the aviation industry. The half-day program aims to inspire girls and young women aged 12 years and older to broaden their horizons through dialogue with representatives from a number of aviation-related organizations. Participants include the Air Cadets, RCAF, Canadian Owners and Pilots Association, National Air Force Museum of Canada (Trenton), flight schools, universities and colleges, and female support organizations such as the Ninety-Nines, Elevate Aviation, and the Northern Lights Aero Foundation, which will distribute pamphlets and giveaways. Female firefighters and police officers will also be on site. Static displays of local light aircraft, including an RCAF CF-18 cockpit, will be part of the afternoon’s program. Rounding out the event will be short presentations followed by Q&As.
