Quinte West has made the final decision on who will receive grants from the Tourism Development fund.
During Wednesday’s council meeting, councillors reviewed a report on the program, indicating which applicants were recommended to receive funds.
A total of $30,000 was available to be distributed. Fourteen applications were received, requesting a combined total of over $120,000. As a result, many grants were funded at less than their requested amounts.
The accepted applications included requests from multiple sport fishing events including the MLF Bass Tournament and Quinte Walleye Festival which received $5000 each, the BaitFuel Fishing Tour which recieved $3500, and Ontario B.A.S.S. Nation which recieved $7500. Other funding included $4000 for Seven Paddles Kayak Rentals, $2000 for Dirty Soles Trail Running, and $2000 for the Trenton Dragon Boat Festival. The Trenton Dragon Boat Festival and Dirty Soles Trail Running were also given advertising space in the Quinte West Discovery Guide.
Some applications were rejected outright, including a request from the Quinte Pickleball Association. Their application was deemed too local in scope, and of more benefit to Belleville than Quinte West. Another declined application was from the Trenton Golden Hawks, which was determined to be related more to local sports programs than sport tourism.
Council voted to approve the recommended grant allocations without debate.
