The Wellington Dukes won a narrow game over the North York Rangers 1-0 at home Friday night.
The Dukes welcomed the Rangers coming off back-to-back losses including, most recently, a 5-4 overtime loss to the St. Michael’s Buzzers.
Before the game Dukes forward Jacob Vreugdenhil was honoured as the Dukes Player of the Month for October as he was blazing hot with three goals and 13 assists for 16 points for his efforts.
Vreugdenhil added to his point total in the first period with an assist on Jonathan Balah’s third goal of the season as the Dukes capitalized on a Sean Clarke tripping penalty to take a 1-0 lead.
That turned out to be all the Dukes needed as they would eventually win 1-0.
Both teams fired plenty of shots on net, Wellington with 25 and North York with 23, but neither goalie blinked after the lone goal in the first and the Dukes took home the win.
Dunsmoor made 23 saves on the night to earn his first shutout and third win of the season.
The Dukes now turn to Sunday when they’ll hit the road to take on the Toronto Junior Canadiens at Scotiabank Pond.
The puck drops at 7:15 p.m.
