Quinte Arts Council is asking Belleville city council to double the annual grant it provides to local artists and art organizations to $2 per capita from the current $1.
If the change were approved by council that would mean the Arts and Culture Grant funding would increase to $100,000 a year instead of the current $50,000.
Quinte Arts Council Executive Director Janet Jarrell stressed the importance of arts and culture in making a community a vibrant and attractive place to be adding that Kingston City Council provides $4 per capita.
Councillors Feeney and Kelly voiced their support for the request and the issue will be discussed at the 2022 budget meetings.
