Seniors who call Seasons Dufferin Centre in Quinte West home were pleasantly surprised with 70 bouquets of fresh flowers Wednesday.
The flowers came from Dahlia May Flower Farm.
The flower business, which operates out of Trenton, has delivered over 2,000 flower bouquets to retirement homes and long term care homes since the COVID-19 pandemic hit in March of 2020.
Wednesday added to the total of deliveries and smiles.
Stephanie Kell, General Manager of Seasons Dufferin, told Quinte News that the residents were excited and grateful for the surprise.
“They were all smiling ear to ear, just asking ‘Oh my goodness, where did these come from?’ and we were able to share the whole thing with them for those who didn’t know. Just saying ‘Thank you so much’ and so many of them said ‘Oh, fresh flowers are my favourite’ and ‘this really brightened my day.’ “
The smiles were possible through community donations, to Dahlia May, that have funded the flower surprises since March.
Members of the community and local businesses have donated money to exclusively fund the over 2,000 flower deliveries over the course of the last year and a half.
Kell spoke about the importance of gestures and acts like these during difficult times.
“Over the last year things have been so difficult and sometimes those small, small gestures, just like bringing flowers in, can really make a difference in someone’s day. No one can see our faces right now, we’re all wearing masks, so we smile behind our masks. Just trying to bring a little bit of light and airiness to the community and to our home, to our facility, really just, it was incredible.”
