Belleville Mayor Neil Ellis is asking city staff to put together a report looking into more details of the Canada-Ontario housing partnership.
In March, it was announced that the partnership will cost-match a total of $8.8 billion over 10 years to help build more affordable homes, infrastructure, and transit.
The funding aims to lower municipalities’ development charges by up to 50% over the next three years.
Speaking during the New Business portion of Belleville’s council meeting on Monday, Mayor Ellis said that the report from staff is requested once further details of the Canada-Ontario partnerships are announced.
He also asked for the report to outline the process that the city could take to submit an application for funding.
