Hastings Prince Edward Public Health is advising anyone who is having unprotected sex to seek sexual health testing due to multiple declared Sexually Transmitted Infections outbreaks.
According to the health unit, there have been 18 cases of syphilis reported in the region so far this year which is nearly three times higher than the five year average.
Further, there is an ongoing gonorrhea outbreak involving 48 cases so far in 2021 and there have been new cases of HIV reported in the area recently as well.
Representatives of the health unit recommend anyone having unprotected sex seek sexual health testing through a healthcare provider.
