Half of all residents of Hastings and Prince Edward Counties age 12 and up are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Tuesday’s Hastings Prince Edward Public Health dashboard shows 50%, or just over 75,000 residents have received both doses of a vaccine.
But Medical Officer of Health Dr. Piotr Oglaza says there’s still room for improvement.
The goal is to get as many people immunized as possible.
“Once we get that majority of the population, over 70 or so per cent of the population with two doses we are in really good shape for this coming cold and flu season, where the concern is that those who are not fully protected will be at risk of contracting the Delta variant.”
First doses have been administered to 78% of the eligible population or more than 117,000 people.
Just over the last four weeks, a little more than 54,000 second doses have been given.
Tuesday’s dashboard also shows zero new cases of COVID-19 though there are still four active cases.
Of those four active cases, three are in North Hastings and one is in the Deseronto area.
One person is in hospital.
