Notice: Public Health Heat Warning
Hastings and Prince Edward Counties / June 28, 2021 – Hastings Prince Edward Public Health is issuing a heat warning to advise residents of Hastings and Prince Edward Counties of the hot and humid weather today, June 28. High temperatures today are forecast to reach 31 degrees Celsius. Humidex values in the upper thirties to near forty are likely today and may occur Tuesday afternoon, with little relief from the heat overnight.
All residents are advised that extremely hot weather can lead to heat related illnesses. Watch for symptoms of heat exhaustion, which include skin rash, muscle cramps, swelling of hands, feet and ankles, heavy sweating, dizziness, headache or fainting, nausea or vomiting, rapid breathing and heartbeat, extreme thirst, and decreased urination with unusually dark yellow urine.
If you experience any of these symptoms during a heat event, immediately move to a cool place and drink non-alcoholic, decaffeinated liquids. Water is the best liquid to drink. During hot weather, make efforts to check in with neighbours, friends, and older family members frequently, especially those at higher risk, to make sure that they are cool and hydrated. Please remember to practice physical distancing when checking on individuals outside of your household or social circle.
