Lennox and Addington County General Hospital (LACGH) in Napanee briefly closed its Emergency Department late Monday night following an oxygen leak.
The hospital issued a press release stating a small leak was identified in the hospital’s oxygen storage tank system, near the north side of the Emergency Department (ED), resulting in a partial evacuation of a portion of the hospital, including the ED.
The Napanee Fire Department and OPP responded.
The incident was resolved a few hours later and the hospital, including the Emergency Department reopened by 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
During the ED closure, members of the public were asked to seek emergency care health elsewhere, including at Kingston Health Sciences Centre, and Quinte Health hospitals.
Officials noted that preliminary information indicated the incident stemmed from an oxygen delivery earlier on Monday.
No injuries were reported in relation to the incident.
LACGH is following up with the oxygen supplier as well as emergency service partners who participated during the incident to review the circumstances, assess the operational impacts and to identify any prevention or improvement measures that could mitigate future incidents.
