Quinte West council will decide whether or not to approve the revised 2021 operating budget at Monday’s meeting.
After deliberating on the budget on February 8, councillors decided not to adopt the new budget mainly due to a 1.97% increase in residential tax.
Staff has revised the budget to present two options, an increase of either 1.47% or 1%, however they are recommending the former.
If council decides on adopting the budget with the 1.47% residential tax, that would mean removing the $200,000 commitment to the proposed Natural History Museum with council requiring updated business and feasibility plans before allocating any more funds towards the project.
A 1.47% increase in residential tax would work out to an average increase of $46.93 annually based on an average property value of $250,000.
