Belleville Council has given permission for economic development staff to submit a grant request to help attract more skilled workers to the city.
At its meeting Monday, Council approved the request to apply for a $30,000 grant through the Rural Economic Development Fund to go towards the Work In Belleville program, which helps run the bi-annual job fair in partnership with Quinte West and also maintains a database of resumes that can be sorted by specific skills and matched to employers who search for it.
If the grant is approved, the money will be used to revamp that website and database, to handle more inquiries and take some of the burden off staff.
The total project, which involves three months of website building and six months of marketing, would cost $60,000 and the RED Fund cash would cover half of that.
The other $30,000 would come from the city’s casino-related economic development reserve, which has a balance of $500,000.
