The mayor of Prince Edward County says council and staff will be looking at ways to manage gatherings and address concerns at “unofficial beaches”.
In a press release Friday, Mayor Steve Ferguson noted that while The County has some beaches that are managed by the province and municipality, like Sandbanks, North Beach and Wellington Beach, there are a number of unofficial beach areas that are unmanaged and have led to concerns around trespassing, traffic congestion, parking and litter.
He says The County is taking action in one of those areas ahead of this weekend, putting in barriers at the end of Bakker Road in Hillier and putting up signs to prevent cars from going down to the shoreline.
Ferguson says a report will come to council on July 21 outlining some options in how to increase enforcement and manage these types of shoreline areas at the end of municipal roads.
