On Thursday, June 11, 2020, as part of an ongoing enhanced enforcement strategy targeting illegal drug activity affecting the community and the safety of residents, members of the Cobourg Police Service Criminal Investigations Branch and uniform patrol officers arrested an adult male for drug trafficking.
As a result of this arrest, police seized psilocybin (magic mushrooms), 1 gram of crystal meth, $1,160 in cash, scales and two cell phones. Twenty-eight–year-old Nicholas John McCarthy of Cobourg was charged with:
1. Enter on land on which a line work is situated;
2. Possession of a Schedule III substance for the purpose of trafficking;
3. Possession of a Schedule I Substance;
4. Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000;
5. Obstruct Peace Officer;
6. Failure to comply with undertaking; and
7. Fail to Comply with Probation Order
McCarthy was held in custody for a bail hearing scheduled for later today.
