Officials with the International Lake Ontario-St. Lawrence River Board have provided a bit more information on what water levels on the lake are expected to look like this spring.
US Board Member Tony David gave a presentation Friday morning outlining some of the protocols for level controls on the waterway, along with providing some historical and current data on what to expect.
Those numbers would see the lake peak at least a foot below the peaks in 2017 and 2019, which caused significant flooding in the Quinte Region and beyond.
David added even though the levels are expected to be lower, shoreline property owners could still have some issues at the peak of the season.
And he says, those significant weather events and other factors could have an effect on the projected forecast as well.
If Lake Ontario’s peak is in the board’s moderate range it would happen from mid-to-late May and if it reaches the higher range, water levels are expected to peak from early-to-mid June.
