Two teens from Toronto have been charged after being stopped by Lennox and Addington OPP early yesterday morning.
The first incident happened around 3:00 a.m. when officers tried to stop a speeding car on the eastbound 401, just east of Palace Road, but the driver refused to pull over right away.
The car, which turned out to be reported stolen, was stopped a short distance away and the 15-year-old driver was arrested and charged with multiple criminal and provincial offences including:
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
- Drive motor vehicle – no licence
- Fail to stop for police
- Stunt driving
About an hour later another reportedly stolen car was seen on the eastbound 401.
It ended up crashing on Palace Road, after trying to get away from police and the 17-year-old driver was also charged with a slew of offences including.
- Possession of Property obtained by crime over $5000
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
- Three counts of Fail to comply with Recognizance
- Flight from Peace Officer
- Obstruct Peace Officer
- Resist Peace Officer
- Breach of Recognizance.
- The accused was further charged under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) with fail to comply with sentence
Both were released with conditions and future court dates in Napanee and both drivers’ names are protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
