Belleville Transit is making some operational changes in the wake of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in the interest of rider and driver safety.
Transit Operations Manager Paul Buck says since the city bus service is essential for people to get to work, appointments, or to other necessary locations, they won’t be shutting down, but they are instituting some practical safety measures.
They include asking riders to enter and exit the bus from the rear door, unless they have a mobility issue and need the ramp, and to not sit directly around the driver.
Buck also says the transit service won’t be accepting fares for the time being, but riders are asked to only use the bus if they absolutely have to and to not get on board if you have any other flu-like symptoms.
If you do have to ride the bus, you should try to keep as much space between yourself, other passengers and the bus driver as possible, to maintain best social distancing practices.
