Quinte Red Devils Weekly report- Feb 17– 23
Pita Pit- Major Peewee (U13)
The Quinte major peewee team began there playoff run this weekend against the Richmond Hill Coyotes.
The Coyotes travelled to Napanee on Saturday for game 1. Ben Sherwin opened the scoring on an assist from Deke Osterhout and Evan Erwin. Trevor Brooks would make it 2-0. The Coyotes would make it 2-1 early in the second period until Ben Sherwin would snipe his second of the game with a nice feed from Osterhout. Kaiden Harmon would round out the scoring from Ethan Kenney to give the devils a 4-1 win and a 1-0 series lead. Reece Herman was solid in net for the devils in this one.
The Devils Headed to Richmond Hill on Sunday looking to close out the series. Quinte would kill off several penalties in the first period and once back to even strength Evan Erwin found the back of the net from a pass from Kaiden Harmon and Connor Birney. The Coyotes would then take a 2-1 lead into the break and headed into the 3rd period. The devils came out flying and on the first shift of the period Carter Hartwick found the top corner with a shot from the point on a feed from Harmon to tie it up at 2-2. With around 3 minutes left in the game Osterhout fired a shot from top of the circle that beat the goalie and give the Red Devils a 3-2 lead. Evan Erwin would seal the deal with an open net goal assisted by Sherwin to give Quinte a 4-2 win. Liam Boyer was sharp in net for Quinte in the series clincher.
The Pita Pit Peewees will now face the Ajax/Pickering Raiders in the next round of the playoffs.
World Elite Training- Major Atom (U11)
On Wednesday, the World Elite Training Atoms played their third game of the series against the Ajax-Pickering Raiders. The Devils were up 2-0 in the series and were looking to sweep the Raiders.
The fans had to wait until the third period before the first team scored. Ajax-Pickering were first to get on the board, but Quinte answered back when Keegan Goulah found the back of the net. Wyatt Whalen gave the Devils the game winner and then secured an empty netter for a 3-1 win. Assists went to Chase Cybulskie and Pierson Clute. Charlie Vos was outstanding in net. The Devils sweep the Raiders to move onto round three.
The Atom Devils faced off against the Whitby Wildcats for round three of the playoffs. Game one was hosted in Madoc and was a great battle. Quinte got on the board first when Jonas McCoy fired a shot, Whalen got the rebound. The Wildcats answered back with a goal of their own. The game was tied 1-1 at the end of the first period. Gabriel Davis took a shot and Ryan Foley was there to chip it in. Whitby evened the score again. Maclean Chisholm scored from Camden Slone and Quinte was up by a goal…but with 28 seconds left in the game, Whitby scored. The game would end in a 3-3 tie and move into overtime. Chisholm went five hole for the overtime winner. Lily Reid was quick and nimble in net and got the 4-3 win.
Quinte faces off against Whitby on Saturday in Whitby and back to Madoc on Sunday. Keep up the great teamwork Devils. Go Quinte Go!!
Free Flow Petroleum- Minor Peewee (U12)
The Free Flow Petroleum Minor Peewees began their week in round one of the playoffs, as they met Oshawa on home ice in Napanee. Both teams off to a bit of a quiet start, the score remained 0-0, at the end of one. Within 5 minutes of the middle frame Matthew Airhart scored, set up by Jacob Moore and Ryland Cunningham, and the visitors answered with two of their own. Those three goals represented the beginning of a scoring sequence, as well as the end to the first round of playoffs, as Quinte hit the net four more times in the second period. Goals for the Minor Peewees, scored by: Moore from Cunningham, Airhart from goalie Katste Brant, Jack Foley (unassisted) and Moore’s second of the night, from Airhart. Opening the final frame, Airhart added his third and forth goal of the game, with assists to Kaden Koutroulides (2), Foley and Ryan Babbs. The final goal of the Quinte show, belonged to Kolby Craig, assisted by Riley Reid and Rykken Ellis. With an 8-3 victory, the Devils took the series and began preparing quickly for round two, beginning just two nights later.
On Thursday, the Minor Peewees faced-off against the York-Simcoe Express, after a long commute to St. Andrew’s College, in Aurora. Fresh off a win and ready to play Quinte proved to be a visiting force at St. Andrews. Maintaining control of the game, while also balancing the goals between periods, Kaden Koutroulides had the team’s second hat trick of the week, assists to Jack Foley (3), Owen Rivers and Carson Lynch. Quinte’s forth goal, securing the 4-2 victory, was scored by Airhart, set up by Noah Lesser. Katste Brant in net for the win.
Returning to home ice, for game two of round two, Quinte hosted the Express on Sunday. Although the game did not fair well for the home crowd, at the end of a 3-0 score. The Minor Peewees take to the ice again, on Thursday at St. Andrew’s College, followed by game four on Saturday, in Madoc. One period and then the next, one win after another. Let’s go team!!
Novice (U9)
The Quinte Red Devils Novice AAA team remain undefeated in league play, after a solid 5-0 win vs the Central Ontario Wolves at home this Saturday. The Devils got off to a quick start, when Mason Whalen picked up the puck in his own end, skated end to end and put one past the COW tender to get his team on the board. Grady Riley followed up with a goal shortly after that, and the Devils never looked back. Riley scored once more for the Devils, while Brody Randle, and Holden Goulah also lit the lamp for their team. Assisting on the goals was Emerson Hailstone, Zachary Miedema and Goulah. Matt Travers made some great saves to earn another shutout between the pipes.
On Sunday, February 16th, the Novice Red Devils hosted the Peterborough Pete’s in a home game where they would recognize their team and individual sponsors, in a “sponsor appreciation day”. Parents, friends, and sponsors enjoyed some light refreshments and got to enjoy an exciting game, as the Devils skated to a 3-0 win over the Pete’s. Title Sponsor, Nate Freitas from Glen Allen park was on hand to drop the puck and Brooke Thompson did a wonderful job singing the National Anthem before the game. Grady Riley had a pair of goals in the game and Edmund Dowling added the other. Everett Brown (2), Thomas Marsden, Brody Randle and Riley all chipped in with assists on the goals. Dax Sage was solid in net for the shutout win.
