The City of Quinte West has agreed to continue its partnership with the Bay of Quinte Regional Marketing Board and split the proceeds from the Municipal Accommodation Tax.
The city is bound by provincial guidelines to share the money with a tourism promotion agency and will do that again with the Bay of Quinte Marketing Board, which in turn, will help to promote the city and greater Quinte Region as a tourist hot spot.
Marketing Board Executive Director Dug Stevenson tells Quinte News, there is no firm number yet on how much the 4% tax has brought in so far, but the tally will be significant.
He adds they’re hoping to get six figures each after the split in year one, but they don’t have a firm number yet, since the MAT was only implemented on July 1, 2019 and there was a three-month phase in for businesses.
Deputy Mayor Jim Alyea says the partnership continues to pay off.
The tax applies to hotels, motels, Air BnBs or other short-term accommodations that are sold for less than 30 days.
