Quinte West Council is putting out a tender for a person or company to take on animal control services in the city.
The current service provider has declined an optional two-year contract extension, so staff approachedĀ the Quinte Humane Society about taking on the job, but the QHS says it would prefer to offer only pound services, similar to agreements it has in Belleville and Tweed.
The agreement run for three years and will cost the city $30,000 per year, butĀ someone will still need to be contracted to handle animal control duties specifically.
Once a new provider is selected, they would pick up the animal control workload effective March 1, 2020, when the contract with the current provider expires.
