Prince Edward County began the long and difficult task of looking into regulating short-term accommodation properties in the municipality two years ago and that took another step forward on Tuesday night.
Council voted, after one failed amendment, to see the document go back to staff for further clarification to approve the motion to licence STAs, establish penalties for non-compliance, and to establish fees for services in regards to the short-term accommodations.
Mayor Steve Ferguson says these regulations will be a living document.
He says Prince Edward County has been particularly hard hit by STAs, especially in their settlement areas and hamlets.
Ferguson says they have to react to the public good and make sure they, as much as possible, control the influence of short-term accommodations in their community.
He said this plan has been worked on for months and months and months with plenty of public consultation and at the end of the day, they have to start somewhere.
