Prince Edward County council approved a number of terms on Tuesday night that will allow the county to move forward in applying for a patent for The County Cultivation Corporation.
The Non-Share Capital Corporation is designed to help young and new farmers in the County.
Four members of council were elected to be directors of the Corporation including Bill Roberts, Steve Graham, Steve Ferguson and Mayor Robert Quaiff.
CAO James Hepburn says the minimum requirement is three directors.
Councillor David Harrison re-enforced his disapproval of this corporation stating it was too much pain for too little gain.
Councillor Roy Pennell also stated it appears they are going to fund “every Tom, Dick and Harry in the County who may have some business going.”
The not-for-profit corporation would promote the establishment, growth and development of farms and businesses in Prince Edward County, provide financial assistance to farmers, entrepreneurs and businesses in Prince Edward County and deliver grants in support of community improvement initiatives, sustainability challenges and build heritage in Prince Edward County.
Hepburn says they are looking at about eight weeks to get the letters of patent approved for the corporation.
