Belleville Police are following up on their promise to crack down on degrading and covered licence plates.
Officers issued 500 written warnings to drivers over two days this week, reminding them about rules governing the covering of plates and requirements to keep them in good condition.
Drivers are reminded that charges can be laid for any defects or obstructions of licence plates.
Damaged plates can be exchanged at Service Ontario Centres and in some cases, can be exchanged at no cost.
The BPS says the education and enforcement campaign will continue through the summer.
