The province’s Special Investigations Unit says there are no reasonable grounds to lay criminal charges against Quinte West OPP, after a man fell from an apartment balcony on Tripp Boulevard, in October of 2016.
Police arrived at the building just before 2:00 p.m. and made contact with the distraught man, who left the 11th floor apartment and went out onto the balcony.
The OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit and Crisis negotiators tried to convince the man to come back inside numerous times and SIU Acting Director Joseph Martino says officers were not responsible for causing the 52-year-old to fall to his death.
An officer on scene suffered a minor injury in the incident as well and was treated at hospital.
The SIU is called any time there is a significant injury, or death involving police, or if allegations of sexual assault are made against officers.
